Divorce Mediation Helps Couples & Families

Divorce, family counseling, mediation, couples counseling, disputes, separation... war? Does it all mean war? Working hard, having less, splitting up, no more safety in numbers... what is happening to us? We used to be married and enjoying it. What happened to get to this place in life?

Fewer than 25% of American families have both parents living together with their children. Does that mean 75% are divorced?

The unmarried couples with children have increased 100 fold. Why? Just so they won’t have to go through the divorce process?

That same divorce process has created nearly 10% of families with children having only a single mother parent. Where is dad after the divorce?

And yet there are over 2 million single fathers as head of households, what happened to mother after the divorce?

Is there a way, a method, even a preferred method to obtaining a divorce? We have heard that lawyers can cost a mint and even having them can just make the conflict worse. Many divorce lawyers let the fighting continue way too long. They listen to who said what and who did what to whom.

Mediators don’t want to know who did what to whom or even why. They seem to accept the fact that the couple had a different ways of doing things. Mediators don’t lecture about shaping up or working together to come to a fair settlement. Mediators ask questions about the future each party wants for themselves and their children.

Mediators listen!!! If anger erupts, it soon blows over and the mediator brings the couple back to the issues.

The mediator knows the issues that need to be addressed in the agreement. Mediators do their job quietly, in a confident manner, all the time being constructive, never destructive. Mediators have information necessary to the divorce agreement and present it in a most cooperative way.

Peggy Fellouris is the foremost divorce mediator in the Greater New Bedford area. As a mediator, Peggy is well know for her friendly professionalism. Do not hesitate to call for an appointment.
